Dr. Ralph Männel - a dentist from Germany - had on his heart a long time concern to offer dental treatment at places that do not have access to a dentist. About two years ago, during a conversation between him and Maria Prean, the idea of building a dental clinic on the land of hope came up. This is a huge necessity because there are very few dentists in Uganda. In our vicinity, there is actually no dentist. With further discussion, the idea became more of a reality and after a short time the building work could start.

At the moment, the brickwork is nearly complete and several donations of finances and equipment have helped make it possible. Besides the dental clinic, the new building will have additional rooms for also the general medical care of future patients. Because Dr. Männel runs a dental clinic in Germany, he will be able to help equip the clinic professionally. He intends to be there for several weeks each year and also to encourage other dentists to come to Uganda for some time and help with treading the patients. Meanwhile, he has been to Vision for Africa three times to keep track of medical supply needs, create plans for the clinic, and to support the building progress.

The purpose of the project is to set up the clinic that local dentists and dental assistants can use and to allow permanent care from these doctors. Moreover, european dentists are supposed to come and help on both, a long-term and short-term basis.

In the new clinic the children of Vision for Africa will be treated for free and staff members and local patients will pay a small amount of money. Furthermore a mobile dentist - someone who set up a dental clinic in their vehicle - will make examinations and treatment  of pupils of other schools, e.g. at Kikondo possible. We are looking forward to the opening of the dental clinic because it will enrich us and the people around us very much.

 

WHAT WE STILL NEED for this clinic:

Dentists, dental assistants, dental technicians, doctors and nurses or students of these professions that are willing to join us here in Uganda for some weeks or months!

8-10 treatment beds, standart medical equipment, surgery equipment

The construction of the dental clinic has been finished!
Some equipment was already delivered, e.g. we could already install the two dental chairs! With the next container we expect some more equipment and towards the end of this year we shall open the clinic!
On July 15th we inaugurated the the dental clinic (together with other buildings) in a great inauguration ceremony with the Archbishop of the anglican church.
