PRIMARY SCHOOL KIKONDO

Maria with studentsVision for Africa Intl. began supporting Kikondo Standard Nursery and Primary School in the year 2003. 20 children were sponsored to begin with. In 2004 a school was built, consisting of 2 classrooms for the classes P1 – P7, a nursery school, staff room, toilets and kitchen. Mr. Boniface Kamara is the headmaster of the school.

At present the school has a total of 550 pupils, of which 206 are sponsored by Vision for Africa Intl. Sponsors for more than 60 children need to be found by the end of the year. The school has 23 teachers. At the end of 2006 the Kikondo Standard Nursery and Primary School was one of the leading schools in the Nyengha area in the final exams.

The school has a positive effect on the development of the fishing village Kikondo situated on the shores of Lake Victoria:

• Creation of workplaces
• Rise in the income of the village population
• Higher turnover in business

• Setting up two buildings for the nursery school
• Accommodation for teachers
• Levelling of the football pitch
• Installation of solar energy
• Setting up a secondary and a vocational school etc.
