Children's buildig site at House Mercy

In a technological world, many people would feel lost and bored without television or internet. However, in a place where such technologies are not common, children develop very creative ways to keep themselves entertained.
A good example of this is in House Mercy - one of our children homes at Vision for Africa. The older boys of this house – Jimmy, Victor, and Eric – spend a lot of their time creating new things.

Victor is a very talented artist and can often be seen drawing one of his House Mercy family members. When these boys have clay, Victor and Jimmy spend a lot of time molding until they create cartoon like figures.

But what do you do if there are no pencils to shade with or clay to form with?
You could always make a house! Using just mud and rocks, Eric started making a small version of House Mercy. He started by mixing dirt and water until he got the right amount that could hold the firm foundation of a small house.

He and Victor even went as far as to make rooms and a small water tank identical too that of House Mercy. The amount of thought and craftsmanship put into this small home is incredible. Who would have thought that you could make such a creation out of just rocks and mud?

Every afternoon you could find Eric and Victor working on their small house. They used an old building tool to smooth the walls and shape the floors. Their small construction site looks much like a bigger building zone.
What this represents is more then just a mud house. This little house shows us how creative and inventive a child´s mind can be. And it also shows us that with a little bit of imagination, many, many, many things are possible!
