After weeks of preparations, that kept our whole team busy, we could finally celebrate the inauguration of the different buildings on Thursday July 15th 2010: Friends, visitors and guests of honour came from everywhere in order to thank God together for what he has made possible within the last couple of years, and to inaugurate the newest buildings together with the arch bishop of the Anglican Church.
We knew that a day like this could only come true if we hold together as a team and each one does his stint: So the gardeners had landscaped the compound beautifully and provided roses from our own greenhouses for the guests, the kitchen had prepared the food, the tailoring had sewed the nice new school uniforms of the students, the construction workers had finished the last buildings in an unbelievable speed, the printer had designed and printed the invitations, the pottery had decorated the community hall wonderfully with their works of art, the music team had enriched the ceremony with their music and singing and the sound technicians made sure that even people from the back of the hall could hear what was being said.
As the majority of the guests arrived between 9 and 10am we could begin the day in the new community hall with worship and prayer.
Through the words of the arch bishop and many other invited guests of honour we could only marvelling realise again and again: If there weren’t people who give God their unconditional “YES”, are obedient to his will and trust that impossible things become possible with him, friends who support in a caring and helpful way, and finally our Father in Heaven who makes everything work, the compound of Vision for Africa in Kiyunga would still be bush land.
After this touching and impressing first part of the celebration the guests of honour went to the hotel, where the students had cooked diligently for them. The parents, staff and students were supplied with really good food from the main kitchen in the community hall.
This was followed by a time where people could walk around and have a look at the exhibitions of the different vocational training school: There was a demounted engine with a horn, you could admire and buy artistic jars of clay made in the pottery, beautiful clothes made in the tailoring department and special cakes from the hotel management school.
Finally at 3pm a huge crowd of different people, led by the arch bishop and accompanied by a brass band, started walking from building to building in order to inaugurate them together and put them under the protection of God: We started at the swimming pool and the hotel, walked to the printer with the new printing machine and continued to the new dormitory for the primary students and the new health centre with a dental office. This was followed by the new children’s homes, the nursery with its dormitory, the new administration building and the main kitchen. Finally also the new community hall was officially opened, and the arch bishop cut a cake.
At the end of this long day everyone was tired but thankful from the bottom of his heart for this wonderful day. We want to give thanks to all the people, helped with their abilities, their strength, their time and their creativity to make this day a special one!
The greatest thank though belongs to our Father in Heaven who started this ministry, leads it and will finish it. He still has much bigger plans than we can see at the moment and we can trust that he is in control over everything and will continue to guide and lead us if we give him our unconditional YES.
To him be praise and honour forever and ever, Amen!
