Reports, experiences, testimonies about the practice in the "House of Life"

Jule Schenk will join us in Uganda beginning with September 2008

See how very much our heavenly Father loves us, for he allows us to be called his children, and we really are! 1 John 3:1

From 1st July to 3rd August I spent time doing practical work in the “House of Life” in Imst. As my sister has  worked there for a long time I already knew the people in charge and some of the people who work there. This was certainly an advantage, for it meant that I soon felt at home.
During this time I got to know Sarah and Jule, who will also be flying to Uganda with me. We got on well right from the start and are really looking forward to the time we will soon be spending together.

But now more about my work in the “House of Life”.

My place was in the kitchen and the guest rooms. The day began with preparing breakfast, then I had to clean rooms, and the day ended with cleaning the kitchen. The work was very strenuous and I spent  a lot of time on my feet; and I have probably developed arm muscles through all the beds I had to make. :-)
It was also strenuous having irregular working hours. Sometimes I had to get up early, sometimes later. Sometimes the midday break was 2 hours, sometimes only 1 hour. Sometimes  I had Monday and Thursday free, sometimes Saturday and Sunday. I learnt to cope with it, however, which is sure to be helpful for the work awaiting me in Uganda.

Jule SchenkIt was really good to work in a team and not just see the “colleagues” at work but also live with them. The guests also were always a blessing. It is not like a hotel there, but it is a large fellowship of people who all have the same goal: to become like Jesus and follow him.
This meant that we experienced many good times of prayer together or could also take part in the seminars. I got to know God in a new way and am thrilled at how much he loves me.

All in all, the time in Imst really changed me in a positive way. I have learnt to deal with problems in the right way; yes, they crop up when people live and work in close fellowship! And I have learnt how I can overcome things with Jesus.
I miss all the lovely people I got to know there, and hope I will soon meet many of them again – whether in Africa, Imst or somewhere unexpected……

Thank you for everything!

Sarah will join us in Uganda beginning with September 2008

Sarah Wedeleit 1I came to the “House of Life” for a month because the practical training here is the prerequisite for working for Vision for Africa in Uganda. I viewed this time just as a transitional period which I had to go through. After I had got used to the thought, I began to look forward to meeting the girls who would fly with me to Uganda and towards having some time with God after all the stress of my school examinations.
After a short time it became apparent that things would be different from what I had imagined. I arrived here very tired, and the next morning I was allowed to start at 6.45 in the kitchen preparing breakfast! The work was not what I would have chosen for myself, and it was often not that easy with so many women in the kitchen…..
Yet no-one can take away what I learnt here. I learnt a lot about humility. When things were difficult, I learnt to remember that I was working here for God and not for people. I also got to know a lot of great people whom I will miss very much. I had less time to sit down with my Bible than at home, yet I got to know God much better in a practical and personal way. I was thus baptized at the end of the time here – I will never forget this time, and I believe it was great preparation for Uganda!
